Winter Time!

Winter time is not as fun when you own a farm. There is a lot of carrying water buckets, shoveling paths, and trying to keep your animals warm. I have a love-hate relationship with snow. I love making igloos and building snowmen, I hate having to shovel paths and the water pumps freezing. One good thing about winter is that all the baby goats are born!

Currently, we have six baby goats; two doelings and four bucklings.  For the first week, we keep them in the house, because we feed them every two hours. Once they are 2 weeks old, we put them in the the barn during the day but, bring them back inside at night. After a few days of doing that we leave them in the barn all the time.

In March, more of our goats are going to be going into labor. Luckily, when my sister isn't around to help, my best friend, Charlotte, always volunteers to do all-nighters waiting for goats to go into labor. We schedule our labors for the beginning of the year because the colder weather results in less germs and it's less likely for the kids to get sick. With all that said, winter is definitely my least favorite season!
